The river Trebbia flows from the Appennino Ligure-Emiliano
to the river Po, near Piacenza, through a great variety
of habitats and situations. The stretch of river between
Bobbio and Perino, about 12 Kilometres long, is in
fact in the middle of its whole course and is set
in a context characterized by an interesting ecosystem
variability, with still considerable high mountains,
extensive agricultural areas and tracts of stabilized
exposed gravelly river bed, which is covered by forest
mantels, moors and dry grasslands.
Despite the presence of S.A.C.s
(M.CAPRA, M.TRE ABATI, M.ARMELIO, S.AGOSTINO, LAGO
DI AVERALDI), IT4010005 (PIETRA
PARCELLARA and SASSI NERI) e IT4010011
(FRiver TREBBIA from PERINO to BOBBIO) della NATURA
2000 Network ,this environment turns out to be
threatened both by an anthropogenic impact certainly
due to the numerous inhabited centres, the heavy tourism
flow, the realisation of a new road section Perino-Barberino,
the various interventions of water control, and by
the large spreading of artificial forest types and
a prospective abandonment of the agriculture activity.
The worst elements of environment alteration consist
of the extreme simplification of the river layout,
the partial cementation and change of its natural
sections, the consequent increase of the current speed
and water erosion power, the presence - in the river
bed - of big old landslides faces, of a concrete wall,
which stops the water-course continuity and - on the
slopes - of a wide covering of allochthonous conifers
and arable lands now uncultivated.
Therefore the project aims at the development and
enhancement of this ecosystem in a multifunctional
way, through rehabilitation activities and conservation
of habitats and species of Community interest, unsettled
by disturbing factors linked to the periodical and
irregular human activity.
In
particular, we have realized the stabilization of
thalweg, together with the construction of a reclimbing
ramp for fish and the adjustment of a landslide by
bioengineering techniques, in order to encourage a
widespread increase of fish species populations, of
Community interest, such as LEUCISCUS
SOUFFIA (STROEMLING), CHONDROSTOMA
GENEI (SOUTH EUROPEAN NASE), BARBUS
PLEBEJUS (BARBEL) , BARBUS
MERIDIONALIS (BARBO CANINO), COBITIS
TENIA (ITALIAN LOACH), PADAGOBIUS
MARTENSI (GOBY) and GOBIO
GOBIO (GUDGEON).
The accomplishment of the interventions will also
benefit the biodiversity of this habitat. By removing
the cement and reducing the water erosion power, they
will contribute to the development of Community interest
habitats habitats - 3270
CHENOPODIETUM RUBRI OF SUBMONTANE RIVERSi in driest
and pebble micro areas and 3240
ALPINE RIVERS AND THEIR RIVERAIN WOODY VEGETATION
OF SALIX ELEAGNOS on the river banks.
Also
the creation of an sub-surface flow system in Pradella,
together with the development of other two free water
surface wetlands (in Bobbio and Travo), contribute
- through the quality improvement of the river water
- to improve fish life conditions and indirectly to
support the trophic need for fish eating birds, by
potentially installing them along the river reach.
Moreover the realization of a fluvial biotope at the
river reach for amphibians species, such as in particular
the DALMATIAN
FROG, and the widening of the existing forest
mantel plantation with plant species listed in the
habitats of Community interest 92A0
- GALLERY FORESTS OF SALIX ALBA AND POPULUS ALBA
enhance the environmental value and the biodiversity
increase of the area.
The "environment rivitalizing" project and general
increase of trophic survey will also indirectly benefit
several falconiform species of Community interest,
of passage and breeding on the mountain rocks near
the river, such as PERNIS
APIVORUS (HONEY BUZZARD), CIRCAETUS
GALLICUS (SHORT-TOED EAGLE). These two species
will also be directly favoured by a model operational
plan about the sinanthropus origin pine groves (PINUS
NIGRA) of Monte Armelio, aimed at the preservation
of their nesting habitats. While the interventions
of habitat enhancement for the fauna near Pietra Parcellara
will improve nutrition and refuge of species such
a PERDIX PERDIX (PERTRIDGE),
CIRCUS PYGARGUS
(MONTEGU'S HARRIER) and various passeriformes
of Community interest. The proposed conservation activities
are supported by suitable surveillance, especially
during summer, to control the public access, involving
provincial Police Agents and GUARDIE
ECOLOGICHE VOLONTARIE and promoting general information
about the construction phases and the results obtained.
In particular LEGAMBIENTE
- CIRCOLO DI PIACENZA is taking care of the aspects
concerned with the environmental education in schools
and with local population.
Some
illustrative panels set along the trails and near
the areas subject of intervention (the biotope, the
facilities using marine plants, the willow grove of
Bobbio, the pine groves of Monte Armelio and the area
of Pietra Parcellara) allow people to take self guided
tour through the interesting sites.
Also
protection huts for bird watching will be set in suitable
positions near the moist zones realized by the project.
